For my Birthday I am asking for a gift for others. This gift was inspired by the passing of my best friend, Melissa Sparks, and animal lover. And, a good friend of mine, Beerma Bishnoi, who has dedicated his life to the care and protection of animals. See link below for more details on the donation.
As for Melissa, who passed with cancer in April. I promised her I would help keep her love of animals alive, with the help of Beerma and the Bishnoi Commuity in India.
Melissa had careers in Broadcast News Media in Oregon and Idaho, Sports Marketing in the USA, Hostel Management in Ireland, and World Travel Guide, but her passion, like many, was always animals.
Along with household pets, she cared for a Harbor Seal in her office in the Marine Science Center on the Oregon Coast, and helped deliver lambs in the Wallowa Mountains of Oregon. In Ireland she helped with homeless donkeys and providing a safe birthing place for farm animals at her hostel. There was no animal that could escape her care and affection.
I assured her before she passed that I would help her, with her legacy. As I had also promised my dedicated friend in India, I would help him realize his dream of a Sanctuary for the endangered wild and domestic animals in his land.
The Bishnoi community has been caring for life, (plant and animal) for over 500 years. I am comfortable that Melissa will live in their spirit for a long time.
