Women’s Day, celebrated by 3 generations of women living in a 21-year-old temporary settlement. Where, as you may see, the walls of the dining area are made with plastic cola bottles, as permanent construction materials are not permitted. These ladies celebrate their activism, as they try to help their 44,000 plus neighbors to transition someday to permanent, employment, housing and life, and get out of permanent unsettlement in corrugated metal and cardboard homes. Todays’ step was the opening of a bakery on this site to provide jobs, food and income for their community. Watch as they, put out the red carpet honoring guest speaker, Monde Litungi of Zambia, who assists women in her Mongu community to create financial independence through savings and business creation. Katrina M Garises, born in the bush of the Kalahari Desert, the woman behind and in front of the women, looking for community success in the Democratic Resettlement Community. And finally me ambling aimlessly, (like a man in a sea of women) looking for a place to set up my cameras, not realizing I too am being honored on the red carpet. Please note the way this women’s night dinner is prepared over an outside fire, is how the majority of women in the world, prepare their dinners for family. The minority of women have the luxury of modern conveniences.
