Outdoor School

January 20
Back to School Day, for me too. Having returned to my base in Portugal, it is now time for me to learn the local language. To do this I have enlisted a mother daughter team.

Today’s lesson were taught in outdoor school, with my teacher of 5 years (not experience but age) who wrote her name, not on a board but in the sand, ‘Malu’ short for Maria Louisa.

Like myself they are immigrants to Portugal, being from the Amazon of Brazil. But we share something in common, they need to learn English and I need to learn Portuguese.

Malu and I helped eachother with counting, colors, and the alphabet; reciting these items, as we walked, and swung and engaged in various outdoor activities, to help us teach each other, the everyday words one needs to communicate well.

After a break for lunch, of American Cuisine, we continued our lessons, and international relations, as Malu introduced me to her best friend and her mother who is from Mozambique and French father.

We finished the day with driving lessons. The next lessons will be with Mom, for home schooling as we learn from each other household words, as we clean and cook together 2 days a week. A non-traditional way to learn, but I am good with that.
