Women’s Month (please note each photo has a link to a story}
A birthday not forgotten;
It was a bit of a challenge, with closed borders, drought, power outages and virus, but it got done. For this young woman has had her share of challenges, like most, but rises to the occasion. Yesterday, it was being laid off from workdue to the virus, along with the list above.
Three and half years ago, Brenda was my waitress, at the Rainbow Café in the mist of Victoria Falls. Had I been a girl my name would have been Brenda too. We laughed. She was 7 months with child within. I went to give a tip, but it would be shared by all, I did this. But I also gave a second tip just for baby within.
2 months later, I was informed the baby was no longer within, but had been born and given my name. What an honor.
A simple gesture, has turned into a special relationship. The tip was not the special part. The special part is that, the most important thing a mother can do is give birth, and then give her child a precious name, that the child we called until life’s end. I was honored and humbled. Our birthday’s and Brendan’s birthday are very special now
Since, circumstances do not permit us to share this day, here is a compilation of Birthday’s shared by Brenda and us two Brendans.
To make the birthday, work today, required help of a friend Lavena lary in the USA, and Petty Muchima of Victoria Falls, as there is no money in Zimbabwe and I am in isolation and cannot make it to Western Union, we got the money to Zambia just before the borders with Zimbabwe closed. Giving Petty just enough time to buy presents and card. Brenda’s last name Dube, means Zebra, ergo the Zebra pillow for her and the animals for the Brendan and Taylor (her daughter).
