When one gets an idea, does the idea come to them, or does one find the idea? For me I had the idea to go to a experimental performance at the Serralves 50HRS PARTY PORTO , in the Biblioteca (library) which was the venue for Sintoma, a performance artist group.
When I arrived in the library’s mezzanine I was confronted oversized lightbulbs from the ceiling. interfering with my view of the experimental performers.
But then I thought to myself this makes sense, light bulbs symbolize ideas, libraries are repository of ideas, and the contemporary performers had their own ideas. So was not surprising to see and understand a meaning for these lightbulbs. And as for experimental, Edison who invented the lightbulb, took over a 1,000 experimental tries to bring his idea to light.
Therefore, I opted to experiment by incorporating all the participants and their ideas, into the context of the lightbulbs themselves.
As performers, performed, the audience watched, and photographers photographed. I found myself, finding others in their ideas or at least caught within the bulbs of the glass above. Which had given me an idea, I found I could catch all in their ideas, as they shone from within the bulbs above them, but now they both idea and idea-er a part of each other. Within the lightbulb, there was a smaller, lightbulb, an idea within idea.
Some I could not catch, in a bulb, so I have no idea what their ideas may have been. See what you think of my idea, of incorporating others into my idea?
